Duggins Data

I have been collecting data on the Duggins family tree for over 30 years. This database is everything that I have been able to piece together, up to this point, that connects. I have quite a bit that does not connect to Ellick Duggins yet. If information has been donated by fellow researchers, I have given the credit to each of those people. If I have neglected to give credit due, please let me know and I will correct the omission. If you find mistakes or would like to add to this database please let me know.

This information was collected by Marcia Duggins: CDUGGINS@cfl.rr.com
According to her information (2010), this line does not connect with Ellick Duggins.
I have attached him as a son of Ellick. It appears that I am incorrect. Does anyone have any other information about this line?

(In this year of 2020, descendants of some of these names do seem to connect with me)

From county history, Saline County, Mo.:
Lewis H. Duggins, deceased, was a millwright by trade, and was born in Louisa county, Virginis, January 5, 1808, where he was raised on a farm. In 1838 he came to Saline cunty, and worked at his trade here for some years. In 1849 he took the gold fever and went to California, where he was successful in mining, and returned to this county in 1853; located in Cambridge, and engaged in merchandising, which he continued till the breaking out of the war. He then sold out and went to farming, at which he continued until his death, September 19, 1875. He was a member of the Methodist Church since he was a boy, and honest and conscientious in all his dealing. He began life with nothing, and accumulated quite a fortune, nearly all of which he lost in the war. He was first married soon after he came to Missouri to Miss Hester A. Goodrich, and had two children. She died in 1847. Was married again in 1860, to Miss Ann Eliza Doak, daughter of Col. Samuel Doak, of this county, formerly of Augusta county, Virginia. Notes for THOMAS CRUTCHFIELD DUGGINS:
From very flowery account in a Saline County, Mo. history:
Thomas Crutchfield Duggins was born in Louisa county, Virginia, March 10, 1810, and was one of twelve children. He was married in Albemarle county, Virginia, in 1833, to Elizabeth White Jackson. He moved to Missouri and settled on a farm about three miles north of Columbia in Boone county, Missouri, in 1838.He traveled this entire distance in a wagon. In 1840 he moved to Saline county, Missouri, and settled on a farm east of Miami, but in 1844 he removed to his farm located three miles west of Slater, where he continuously resided until a few months prior to his death, which occurred in Marshall, Missouri, in January, 1880.
Prior to his removal to his farm near Slater Mr. Duggins was employed by the government to assist in surveying the "Platte Purchase," and was afterwards elected county surveyor of Saline county, which position he held for sixteen years, and with such skill and accuracy that his surveys gave general, if not universal, satisfaction to the people. After the Civil war he was again often called into official service as an experienced aid to the county surveyors.
Another bio of his son Wm. T. states he taught school in Virginia from 1829 to 1838.
************************
In a long letter written to his wife during a lengthy visit to his relatives in Virginia, he makes the following observation: (written in 1873)
l. Went to Richmond first and stayed 8 days with George's children.
2. 20 miles to Goochland Co. to see George and family. George and Elizabeth very feeble - cannot last long. John, their youngest son -still unmarried-is with them.
3. 10 miles to William's. William's wife dead about 12 months. William's eyes very sore. Wm's son Josiah and wife and 3 small children. Children very badly behaved!!
4. Visited "the old place" (Louisa co.?) about 10 miles. William and "Dolly" (this is William Fleming Duggins and Indiana -the former wife of Wm's uncle, James Madison Duggins. Doesn't know whether to call her "sister" or "niece"!! Also visited Robert's and Jefferson's families. Robert's wife has her youngest son with her. Jefferson's wife has married a Mr. Ready. Most of the letter tells how bad conditions were after the Civil War for the people who lived there. What poor shape the buildings were in, etc. The rest of the letter is about visits to his wife's people.

Notes for EDMUND PENDLETON DUGGINS:
He may or may not be a son of William Duggins. Information supplied to Ruth Harvey by Frances Nuckolls, Rose Massie and the Louisa Co. Records, according to Ruth. There is a large gap in ages between Edmund and Thomas Crutchfield Duggins - about 14 years. Edmund is probably the son of one of the older brothers - Robert, William, Ruth Harvey was the wife of a descendant of Granville Thomas Duggins, a son of Patrick Henry Duggins by his first wife, Lucy Jane Ford.
